anaees:

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)

                                    i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)
—e.e. cummings

I Like.
For a bonus point, name one (of the many) books this has been on the cover of?

A great piece of writing from Christopher Hitchens in this month’s Vanity Fair. A self-styled polemicist, pro-interventionist (Iraq!), alleged to have been all manner of unpleasant people at various points in an undoubtedly interesting life, Hitchens is above all a writer and has just been diagnosed with cancer. Whether you Love him or hate him this deserves to be read. Click through for the link.

‘Hygieia’ detail from ‘Medicine’ by G. Klimt
Hygieia, daughter of the God of medicine Asclepius, part of his cult and from whom the word hygiene is derived, is depicted here with her fathers snake on one arm and a cup of lethe (oblivion) in the other hand.
The painting was part of three commissioned by the University of Vienna for the ceiling of their great hall. Once completed and unveiled, they were rejected as pornographic and perverse by the conservative critics and university faculty of fin de siecle Vienna, and were not displayed. One of the trio ‘Philosophy’ (the other is ‘Jurisprudence’), won the gold medal at the Worlds Fair in Paris and the paintings were passed around different owners, eventually ending up with a Jewish family from whom they were taken and burnt by retreating SS forces. I bloody love it, I think I know girls that look like this, shame the painting doesn’t exist anymore.
